Privacy Policy
Pierce Building Services Privacy Policy is based on the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs), as outlined in the Privacy Act 1988 (Privacy Act). We adhere to and apply these principles as follows:
Collection of Information
Purpose: We receive customer information from insurance companies to conduct our business. This includes contacting customers and attending their premises to carry out building assessments and repairs.
Anonymity Options: Where feasible, customers have the option of not identifying themselves or using a pseudonym when dealing with us on a particular matter. To assist with this anonymity, we create a unique job number for all customers, which can be used to manage jobs without referring to any personal information.
Lawful Collection: We only collect personal information by lawful and fair means that are reasonably necessary for one or more of our work activities.
Unsolicited Information: If we receive personal information that is not necessary to complete a claim and we did not solicit the information, we will delete or de-identify the information as soon as practicable, provided it is lawful and reasonable to do so.
Use and Disclosure of Personal Information
We only collect personal information by lawful and fair means that are reasonably necessary for one or more of our work activities.
If we receive personal information that is not necessary to complete a claim and we did not solicit the information, we will delete or de-identify the information as soon as practicable, provided it is lawful and reasonable to do so.
We notify customers that we possess their personal information, forwarded to us by insurance companies, through our initial contact and during the organization of assessments and repairs.
Personal information collected for a specific purpose (the primary purpose) is not used or disclosed for another purpose (the secondary purpose).
Direct Marketing and Overseas Disclosure
We do not disclose customer information for direct marketing purposes or to overseas recipients.
Identifiers and Accuracy
We do not request, adopt, use, or disclose government-related identifiers of customers.
We take reasonable steps to ensure that the personal information we receive or disclose is accurate, up-to-date, complete, and relevant.
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, unauthorized access, modification, or disclosure.
Access and Correction
On request, we will give customers access to their information that we hold, unless it is unreasonable to do so (e.g., if giving access would be unlawful or impact existing or potential legal proceedings).
If we hold personal information about a customer that is inaccurate, or if the customer requests correction, we will take reasonable steps to correct the information to ensure it is accurate, up-to-date, complete, relevant, and not misleading.
